How to clean a cooker hood

How often to clean a kitchen cooker hood

If you cook every day, you should clean the interior and exterior of your cooker hood and filter monthly. Seasonal cleaning is sufficient if you are not a frequent cook. Even if you don't clean the rest of the hood, always plan to clean the filter after preparing the holiday meal.

Clean the hood while it's hot after each use. Oil smoke, steam and unburned carbon monoxide are drawn out of the house. While there is still residual heat on the cooker hood, wipe the surface with a rag, you can easily wipe off the oil stains on the cooker hood and always keep it clean and not greasy.

If the following occurs, it's time to deep clean the cooker hood:

  1. The cooker hooddoes not clear the smoke from the room, even at the highest power setting. This could mean the filter or ductwork is clogged with grease and needs cleaning, or the motor is causing the fan to malfunction.
  1. The motor is loud or humming continuously. Unusually loud or unusual sounds indicate that the engine is overworked. It may just need cleaning to prevent rubbing or grinding, or it may need to be replaced.

Your cooker hood will be covered in dust, dirt and greasy residue. Cleaning by a professional is the best way, but a DIY method is a suitable alternative.

  1. Eliminate dry dust layers

Start your "cooker hood cleaning" tasks with dust removal.

To do this, use a dusting brush cleaner and remove any dry dust particles from the surface. The best cleaning brushes can reach the excellent and tight spots, corners and outer edges of the cooker hood for effective cleaning.

  1. Wipe the exteriorof the cooker hood

Mix soap with warm water to make a foamy liquid. Wipe the surface with a brush and soap, and if you want a smoother look, remove any remaining dirt particles with the help of a kitchen towel.

Tips: You can also use a vinegar solution with hard, sticky, and greasy particles. Just spray it on the spot and clean the outside of the exhaust hood.

  1. Wipe off the stains under the hood

To do this, first, wear gloves to protect your hands from chemicals.

Mix baking soda with water and keep non-fat soap near you.

Soak the brush in liquid soap and rub the inner area effortlessly.

  1. Remove the filter for deeper cleaning.

Remove the reusable filter, slide it out or find the latch to remove it. Prepare cleaning solution. Fill the sink with boiling water. If you don't have a sink, use a heatproof large pot or glass baking pan. Add one to two tablespoons of dishwashing liquid containing a degreaser to the water. Add half a cup of baking soda and mix the solution well.

Immerse the filter in the solution and soak for at least fifteen minutes. Next, use the scrub brush to remove any grease or food particles still clinging to the filter. Rinse well with hot water and dry thoroughly before placing back in the cooker hood.

  1. Mandatory inspection of your vents/ducts

A vent or duct is a long tube installed just above the cooking range and connected to the oven hood. It helps to expel all solid odours and fumes.

You probably haven't checked its internals for years, and grease and grime can live off of it. Just grab a flashlight, hop on a ladder, and remove your vent cap on your ductwork. Check for debris. On finding out the presence of smut, call a duct cleaning professional to clean it so it can perform better in the future.

Tips: Clean the cooker hood filter and cooker hood every three to six weeks to keep the cooker hood duct in good condition. With ongoing maintenance, you'll never need to clean your plumbing!
